Aravinda was an attacking batsman, particularly strong at hooking and cutting the ball. He is best known for his match winning unbeaten 107 which was made chasing Australia's total of 241 in the 1996 World Cup final against Australia, having also contributed 3 for 42 with the ball. Largely due to this effort he was one of five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1996.
