Chris Gayle (born September 21, 1979 in Kingston, Jamaica) is a West Indian Test and ODI cricketer.

Gayle is a tall and imposing left handed opening batsman, capable of dominating attacks. He is the only batsman to have scored a century in Twenty20 International cricket which he scored in the opening game of the 2007 World Twenty20 tournament in South Africa against the hosts. The Jamaican has also made a Test cricket triple century against the South Africans, making 317 at Antigua in 2005. The innings was the fourth highest ever by a West Indian, with Lara twice and Sobers ahead of him. Other highlights in his career include a 79 ball century at Cape Town in 2004 and a Player of the Tournament award in the 2006 Champions Trophy where the West Indies finshed runners up, with Gayle scoring three hundreds.

His right-arm offbreaks are often used in the death overs of ODI cricket, with considerable success. He has also captained the West Indies in international cricket, leading them to a One Day series win in England in 2007 and to their first ever Test match victory in South Africa.

When not playing international cricket Gayle represents Jamaica in the Carib Beer Cup and has previously played county cricket with Worcestershire. In 2005 he opened the batting for the ICC World XI in the ICC Super Series.
