Martin Crowe (born September 22, 1962 in Auckland) is a former New Zealand Test and ODI cricketer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. He is a cousin of Hollywood actor Russell Crowe and brother of New Zealand Test cricket Jeff Crowe.
A classy batsman, Crowe was a regular in the middle order for New Zealand and by the time he played the last of his 77 Tests had set many national records. His tally of 5444 was a New Zealand record until 2004 when passed by Stephen Fleming while his 17 hundreds remains a record. He also holds the highest ever Test score by a New Zealander, making 299 against Sri Lanka in 1991 and missing out on a triple hundred when he was caught behind off part timer Arjuna Ranatunga. In this match he put on a 467 run partnership with Andrew Jones which was at the time the highest in Test history for any wicket. It was since been bettered but it still remains the highest ever partnership by a New Zealand pair.
Crowe captained his country in 16 Tests and led New Zealand to the semi finals of the 1992 World Cup. He finished as the tournament's leading scorer with 456 runs and was named Player of the Tournament.
